TOEFL: stands for the Test Of English as a Foreign Language

 TOEFL Overview 

· TOEFL: stands for the Test Of English as a Foreign Language 

· It is one of the most widely used English Proficiency Test in the world. 

· It is a very good option for the aspiring students to get admission into Foreign Universities in future. 

· TOEFL measures the skills of Reading, Listening & Speaking proficiency designed for the young students at the beginning stages of learning to acquire good communication skills in English. 

· TOEFL Primary Level is for 3,4 & 5 classes. 

· TOEFL Junior Level is for 6,7,8 & 9 classes. 

· TOEFL Primary & Junior Level tests are objective and not limited to any specific curriculum. 

Objectives

· Young learners acquire their English Language abilities at different times, in different ways. 

· Language proficiency can be achieved through exposure over a period of study and practice. 

· Many job opportunities are awaiting those who have good communication skills. 

· Globalization has an impact today and tomorrow, so that each and every one should practice more foreign languages for the near future. 

· This is the initial step for the children to start their hundred mile journey. 

In order to get prepared for the test, the following things are to be considered: 

i).Engage yourself in the practice as frequently as possible and as many ways as possible in Reading, Listening to recordings and speaking to others in English. 

ii).Practice more number of times to get familiar with the test. 

iii).Follow the Test Directions carefully and answer the questions. 

iv).Mark only one answer to each question.

STRUCTURE OF THE TEST 

The TOEFL Primary & Junior tests consist of 15 Multiple Choice Questions for Formative Assessment 1 English – Part-B (TOEFL) with a total testing time of 20 minutes. 

Important Note: 

· TOEFL practice and test have to be conducted in schools where there are Smart TVs / IFPs (Interactive Flat Pannels) available. 

· Sample papers are given for practice. 

DIRECTIONS

READING: 

Primary Level – Classes: 3 to 5 

· This section measures the ability to read and understand the Texts written in English. 

· In this section, the first four questions (1 to 4) consist of vocabulary and the next four questions (6 to 8) consist of action words. 

· Pictures will be given with 3 options. Choose the correct option and put it in the bracket. 

Junior Level – Classes: 6th to 9th

· In this section, you will read the questions based on Language items and Texts to answer the questions. 

· Choose the correct answer to each question and put the letter of the correct answer in the bracket.

LISTENING

· This section measures the ability to listen and understand English. 

· In this section, you will hear some talks, discussions etc., Listen to the given Audios 4 / 5 times carefully and put the letter of the correct answer in the bracket. (Both Primary & Junior Levels) 

LANGUAGE FORMS AND MEANINGS

Junior Level – Classes: 8th & 9th

· This section measures the ability to demonstrate proficiency in enabling English skills such as Grammar & Vocabulary in contexts. 

· In this section, each question is having a box that contains three possible ways to complete a sentence. 

· Mark the letter of the correct answer and put it in the bracket.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR HEAD MASTERS / TEACHERS

All the Headmasters and Teachers should ensure that: 

· TOEFL practice should be given on every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, in case of Second Saturday it may be conducted on Friday of the week. 

· Question papers / Practice papers and audio clips for practicing and testing 

are pushed to Smart TVs /IFPs through Mobile Device Management (MDM) app to display and practice them as many times as possible. 

· All DEOs, Dy.EOs, MEOs are instructed to send the proceedings as per the 

given guidelines to implement the TOEFL in all Government Management Schools where Smart TVs /IFPs are available. 

· All Monitoring Officers should observe the TOEFL practice classes during their visits. 

TOEFL LISTENING PRACTICE: AUDIO FILES: QUESTIONS:

(Note: Listening is one of the skills to be tested in TOEFL exam. An unknown audio file will be given and the students are supposed to answer questions based on the audio file. So, If we can prepare 

our students with the known audio text, that practice will help them to listen and understand unknown texts also. To provide practice for our students the above files may be useful.)
